Manners 1

A well-mannered family dog is priceless. Manners 1 - Beginner, is ideal for dogs that have attended our PuppyGarten, dogs that want to learn new manners or refresh their skills. The class is a wonderful preparation to work towards the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test.

*This is not an appropriate class for dogs that have a hard time being in the same room as other people or dogs.  All participants must be people and dog friendly.  Please consider our Reactive Dog class or Private training if you need help with behavior modification.

Behaviors we will cover:

Bring to class:

  • Lots of small, moist treats your dog loves.

  • Favorite toy and food filled toy such as Kong.

  • Mat (such as a bathmat).

  • Flat collar, martingale or  harness. (no prong, choke or e-collars allowed)

  • 6ft leash (no retractable)

Vaccination requirements:

Proof of one DHPP vaccine 

There are no make-up classes.

For dogs 5 months or older

Manners 2 - Canine Good Citizen

For graduates of the Manners 1 Class - Intermediate, this class continues foundation skills and introduces tricks.

The last class offers the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) testing.

 

Prerequisites: Manners 1 - Beginning class, previous group training experience or approval of trainer

Behaviors we will cover:

  • impulse control behaviors such as sit stay and down stay

  • focusing on handler/owner and ignoring distractions

  • sitting politely for petting

  • loose leash walking through a crowd

  • recalls with more distractions

  • greeting a stranger

  • greeting another dog politely

  • supervised separation

  • reviewing CGC test requirements

  • tricks

Manners 3 - Advanced Canine Good Citizen

For graduates of the Manners 2 Class - Advanced, this class continues foundation skills and tricks. The last class offers the Advanced AKC Canine Good Citizen ACGC) testing.  

 

Prerequisites: Manners 2 - Intermediate class, previous training experience or approval of trainer.

In this class we continue to focus on developing obedience behaviors. We incorporate more real life distractions, add more duration and focus on provide a good skill set for ACGC testing (Advanced CGC) and Therapy Dog (based on TDI).

*This is not an appropriate class for dogs that have a hard time being in the same room as other people or dogs.  All participants must be people and dog friendly.  Please consider our Reactive Dog class or Private training if you need help with behavior modification.

 

Behaviors include:

  • learning to relax while owner is doing something else

  • sitting politely for petting with distractions

  • meeting a friendly stranger with distractions

  • meeting another dog

  • loose-leash walking past distractions

  • loose-leash walking through a crowd

  • recall (20 ft +) with distractions

  • sit and down stay with distractions and distance

  • enter/exit a doorway politely

  • leave it with distractions

  • reaction to situations including wheelchair, walker, children and more

  • reviewing ACGC test requirements

  • reviewing TDI test requirements

  • tricks

Manners 4 - Urban Canine Good Citizen

For graduates of the Manners 2 or 3 Class - this class continues foundation on skills with more distractions, increased distance and longer duration. 

Prerequisites: Manners 2 or 3 - Advanced class, previous training experience or approval of trainer.

In this class we continue to focus on continuing to develop stronger and better obedience behaviors. We incorporate more real life distractions, we add more distance and add duration to behaviors. We will implement some real time situation in training. The class will take place outside. Please dress accordingly.

Behaviors include:

  • exiting and/or entering a building 

  • walking through a crowd in a busy public place

  • exposure to busy street, walk way and distractions such as skateboards, bicycles, and more

  • crossing a street

  • ignoring food on the sidewalk

  • down stay in busy outdoor area (3 minutes)

  • getting in and out of the car politely

  • meeting a friendly stranger outdoors

  • walking up and down stairs or an elevation with distractions

Bouncy Dog Course

This is a three week course that is focused on the bouncy dog!  If your pup likes to jump up on people when they meet them, this is the course for you!  We will work on impulse control games that will encourage your pup to sit politely when greeting people both while out on a walk or when people are visiting your home.  We will also work on greeting other dogs politely.  Let's keep four on the floor, shall we!?!?

*IMPORTANT! This class is NOT for reactive dogs that are growly towards other people and dogs.  This workshop is for dogs that are comfortable in a class environment.  If you have a reactive dog, go to our GROWLY DOG page and see if our reactive dog class is right for you.

  • Water

Tricks!

Let's have some fun!

This workshop is an opportunity to learn tricks for fun and redirection tools for any reason.  Tricks can be an amazing way to keep your dog engaged with you, making you the most important person in the room! Think of the posibilities! A chin hold to help with body handling!  "Center" your pup between your feet to have the most control of their positioning at any time!  Targeting with nose and body for so many fun and important reasons!  The list goes on and on.

*IMPORTANT! This class is NOT for reactive dogs that are growly towards other people and dogs.  This workshop is for dogs that are comfortable in a class environment.  If you have a reactive dog, go to our GROWLY DOG page and see if our reactive dog class is right for you.

Recall Course
Coming When Called

This is a 3 week course that focuses only on recall with your dog. Coming when called is an important skill to have at any age and in any environment.  We will introduce fun training games to make this skill not only fun but also reliable!

If having your dog off leash in a dog safe environment is a goal, you may want to consider this clinic to strengthen your recall.

NOTE: Your dog must be comfortable around other dogs and people to be successful in this clinic. Dogs will be moving around a lot so dogs that are triggered by that might not be successful.

Low Stress Body Handling
 

Low Stress Body Handling to the next level. Practice practical body handling techniques with your dog or observe to learn from others. First session is without dogs. We will discuss body language, stop cues and more. We will have 4 working spots available. 

Prerequisite: Non-reactive dogs that can handle a group class environment around other dogs and people.

Positions we will cover:

  • Restraint (hug)

  • Chin Rest

  • Brushing

  • Toothbrushing

  • Nail Clipping

  • Clipper Prep

  • Medication administration​

Working spots available to dogs that are not reactive to other dogs or people.

Date and Time:

Thursday, November 21 - December 12, 6PM (No class November 28/Thanksgiving)

Class on November 21 is WITHOUT dogs, handlers only.
